Gallery - People At Work In Institutions Building large institutions not only gave a community prestige as being progressive, it provided jobs for local people. Once established, they were often self contained communities. Inmates were often required to work, in the farms, laundries, and kitchens, or as attendants for those who were less able. This was regarded as therapeutic as well as cost-cutting. |
