In the late 1980s, a period when adults with disabilities begin to participate at the board level in non-profit diagnosis and service based organizations, there is in some quarters a shift in the public service advertiser's methods and message. This is most evident in organizations like National Easter Seals, the ARC, and United Cerebral Palsy. People with disabilities begin to have some consumer representation and voice on the boards of the traditional voluntary non-profits, and they also begin to create their own organizations and missions to provide services and aid to their community. |
